Making Tomato Sauce at The Albany Youth House

As a part of the work we do with the Pacific Northwest CSA Coalition to promote Community Supported Agriculture, this year we are offering free cooking classes to help bridge the gap between local farms with financially accessible CSA programs and low-income or low-access communities. This year we partnered with community organizations, co-instructors, and local farmers to bring this free cooking class series to life.

In this class, we joined families at The Albany Youth House (in partnership with the Community Services Consortium) in learning how to take advantage of summer abundance and make a big batch of homemade spaghetti sauce. With incredible produce from Sunbow Produce, together we learned tips and tricks to making a super flavorful and versatile tomato sauce that can be used for spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, or a base for grilled cheese with tomato soups, and more.

Community Services Consortium offers youth and community members a variety of services and resources. This year they have a partnership with Sunbow Farm to provide free CSA boxes to communities around the Albany area.
